As a first year teacher, knowing nothing about Desktop Publishing. I may I be successful? HELP!!!
I would say the key to being successful with DP is to practice doing DP yourself with whatever software you use. Try to make all your documents visually pleasing and, most importantly, functional. Once you are really comfortable designing beautiful documents that get the message across, you’ll be more able to critique student designs and help them become better designers through an iterative revision process that is fun and engaging.
Also, use lots of projects. The ones I’ve posted here only represent a fraction of what you can come up with. Think of things you think would be fun to design and turn it into a project. If it’s fun for you, it can be fun for the students. If you hate it, chances are, they will too.
